The chuck can be tightened by hand, altho one can still use the small Dremel wrench or (simply) a pair of pliers. I like its 3-speed functionality, altho it seems you can stop the dial between speed settings for VARIABLE speed. Dremel doesn't make a 3-speed corded tool.
I've owned a few of these tools and have used them extensively. They're fairly durable, but wear out eventually and you cannot open the casing (unless you get a special screwdriver) to service it. I'm glad Amazon still carries it, since Walmart no longer does. Black and Decker says it's been discontinued, so this review may become obsolete soon.
It handles all the Dremel bits, which is good since I never saw B&D rotary bits anywhere. I bought two recently and fear I won't be able to replace them in a couple years... but I'll just buy a Dremel then... no big deal.

This tool does everything the best Dremel can do. Great, fast, powerful tool. Works with all Dremel bits and attachments. I like the Dremel right angle attachment personally. Anyway, there is no need to feel bad for Dremel by saving money buying this... You'll still be giving them plenty of money buying their accessories.
This one only comes with a storage bag. If you want a case and more accessories you'll have to buy the next version up for about $5 more. It's the same tool though. It's probably worth the cost to get the extra accessories.

Over a three week period, I went through 7 "hobbiest" rotary tools (Dremels).I work home construction, and these hobbiest tools simply do not hold up.
A co-worker gave me a B&D rotary tool he had picked up at a garage sale for $2, amazingly it performed beautifully! I continued to use it for months with
full confidenced until I inadvertently left it at a job site. This item is not sold at the big box stores and I could not find it on line, until I checked Amazon.
Found the item at a surprisingly low price! Now I can get back to solving job problems.

So far, so good. The title is a bit deceptive for this particular item as the storage "case" is really a drawstring pouch which offers really no protection to the tool or accessories. I picked up a 105 piece accessory kit to go with it since this one only comes with the sanding drum and 4 sanding bands. Since the addition of the accessory kit I have been able to etch my name into my tools and on my bike and cut down and sanded a small shelf for my bathroom. The adjustable speed is very handy and the unit is very light and manageable. I can see this tool getting A LOT of use in the future!

This tool works great, when you can actually get it to let go of the bit if you need to swap it out. It says they are easy to get out, well yes, provided you use a pair of pliers... I have a bit stuck in the tool at the moment, been trying to get it out for oh...45 mins. Probably going to have to dismantle the whole tool....
works great as a dremmel tool, sucks at "quick release" bits.
